George Washington Johnson Was Perhaps The First African American To Ever Record On Record The First Versions Of This Song Were Recorded When He Was Still A Slave. At This Time Each 78 Had To Be Recorded Live Apparently He Recorded This Song Over 40,000 Times. This Is A Version From 1909 With A backing Band.
